MARQUETTE – Marquette Area Public Schools was recently awarded a $2,000 grant to fight food insecurity in the community by the Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan Agent Charitable Fund. Grant funds will support the JJ Packs Program and provide for fresh fruit in the weekend packs. Any MAPS student can receive JJ Packs; interested families should contact their school counselor.
Marquette Area Public Schools is one of several organizations throughout the state to receive a Feeding the Future Grant from the ACF. Organizations are nominated by a local Farm Bureau Insurance agent and selected by a committee of ACF donors based on the need of the organization, population being served, and overall goal of the program.
Farm Bureau agents Scott Huber and Heather Robinson nominated Marquette Area Public Schools for the grant. As Huber says, “I choose to help hungry kids in Michigan and bridge the gap where food security may not be promised, so no child goes home hungry.” Presentation of the grant will take place at St. Michael’s Church, 401 West Kaye Street, on Friday, May 23rd at 9:00 a.m.
The ACF, whose mission is to end hunger in Michigan, is a donor-designated fund administeres through the Michigan Foundation for Agriculture.
