MARQUETTE — Friday marks the 2024 celebration of plaid and Midwestern culture known as Plaidurday.
Each year, many area residents gather for a group photo with everyone wearing their favorite plaid gear. This year, the photo will be taken Friday at Marquette’s South Beach lifeguard stand. Everyone is asked to show up at 5:30 p.m. for the 6 p.m. group photo.
The annual event was started by Marquette-area businessman Bugsy Sailor while he was living in Lansing.
“Plaidurday is the worldwide celebration of plaid, because we’re all connected by a common thread. Plaidurday is celebrated annually on the first Friday of October,” Sailor said. “With plaid, we are stitching together a better world, one seam at a time.”
According to Sailor, around 350 people showed up for the 2023 Plaidurday group photo and he hopes that this year’s photo will equal or exceed that number.
After the photo, people will meet at Drifa Brewing Company in Marquette to continue the Plaidurday celebration.
