Wilson man to serve 20 years on meth charges
MENOMINEE — A 63-year-old Wilson man was sentenced to three to 20 years in prison for delivery of methamphetamines, according to Menominee County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffrey T. Rogg.
Edward L. Britton was sentenced on Tuesday by Judge Mary B. Barglind. According to court documents and information presented in court, the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team used a confidential informant in April 2023 to buy 1.1 grams of methamphetamine from Britton at a residence located on Bellefeuil Lane D-3 in Wilson.
During that transaction, Britton offered to sell larger quantities of methamphetmine at a “discounted price.” The informant made additional purchases of methamphetamine in May and June 2023.
A search warrant for Britton’s address was obtained and executed on June 20, 2023.
One hundred dollars of UPSET prerecorded funds from the controlled purchase the day before were located on Britton’s person and seized, along with additional quantities of methamphetamine, guns and drug paraphernalia used in Britton’s drug sales operation.
“Mr. Britton also agreed as part of the settlement of the case to testify against others involved in his drug trafficking operations, in additional cases I plan to bring,” Rogg said. “Britton now has seven felony convictions in three different states and, although he ‘scored out’ for more prison time than he ultimately received, I agreed to the ‘downward departure’ because his cooperation against others will allow further disruption of midlevel drug dealers in Menominee County.”
Rogg said he was proud of the teamwork and partnership between his office and UPSET.
