Storm water pipe collapses in Ishpeming
ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming City Council discussed the Second Street storm water pipe collapse at its meeting Wednesday evening.
Interim city manager and finance director Grant Getschow explained that initial delays were because the city had monitored the water flow to determine whether a larger pipe should be installed.
The brick pipe collapsed in May. It was determined the size of the pipe was too large for Ishpeming city crews to repair.
Getschow said the project should be put out for bids next week.
He said the work should be completed by November, except for paving, which will be done in the spring. The work will include replacing a block-and-a-half long catch basin.
Getschow said some Section 19 emergency funding is being used to pay for the project. Some additional funding is still needed.
