Watch out for bikes: How Ore to Shore affects traffic
MARQUETTE — With the Ore to Shore Mountain Bike Epic set to start today (Saturday, Aug. 10), here are some details concerning road closures, race routes and times.
Negaunee
Croix Street will be closed to traffic from Owassa Street to Birch Street from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. It will also be closed from Owassa Street to Baldwin Avenue from 9 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.
Baldwin Avenue and North Road will have traffic controls from the Croix Street and Baldwin Avenue intersection to half a mile north of Kivela Road from 8:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. to allow the race to travel north on North Road. Traffic will be controlled on North Road during this time. Slight delays may be possible.
Negaunee Township
North Road from the Negaunee Rod & Gun Club and northbound for three-eighths of a mile will have traffic controls in place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Bicycle traffic will be entering the road from the west, traveling southbound on North Road and exiting to the east. Slight delays may be possible.
Traffic controls will be in place at the North Road and Kivela Road intersection from 8:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Slight delays may be possible.
Downtown Negaunee
The following city streets will be closed to traffic and posted as “NO PARKING” from approximately 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.: Iron Street from Tobin Street to Division Street, Ann Street from Healy Street to New Buffalo Road and New Buffalo Road from Ann Street to Carlson Road.
Racers will cross Rolling Mill Road from approximately 9:45 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Traffic controls will be in place at the snowmobile trail crossing west of Jackson Park from 9:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. to allow the riders to cross the road. Delays during this time can be expected.
Bicycle traffic will be entering Hoist Road from the west and traveling along to County Road 510 from 9:15 a.m. and again from 10:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Please watch for cyclists.
Traffic controls will be in place at the Hoist Road and County Road 510 intersection from 9:15 a.m. to 10 a.m. and again from 10:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to allow bicycle traffic to turn north onto County Road 510 from Hoist Road. Delays can be expected.
Bicycle traffic will travel north along County Road 510 from Hoist Road for approximately 4 miles from 9:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
City of Ishpeming
Traffic controls will be in place at the Iron Ore Heritage Trail snowmobile trail crossing from 9:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. to allow the riders to cross the road. Delays can be expected.
Downtown Ishpeming
The following city streets will have traffic controls in place from approximately 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Delays can be expected.
On Seventh Street, bicycle traffic crosses at the snowmobile crossing between New York Street and Bigelow Street.
On Hematite Drive, all cross streets from Third Street to Lake Street to allow bicycle traffic to travel west along Hematite Drive.
On Lakeshore Drive, bicycle traffic crosses just north of the snowmobile crossing just north of the Carpet Specialists.
On Washington Street, bicycle traffic crosses at the snowmobile trail crossing just north of the UPPCO facility. On Copper Lake Cutacross Road, bicycle traffic crosses at the railroad crossing.
Ishpeming Township
On Woodland Drive, traffic controls will be in place from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. to allow bicycle traffic to cross from the east. Slight delays can be expected.
On North Westwood Drive, traffic controls will be in place from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. to allow bicycle traffic to cross from the north. Slight delays can be expected.
On County Road 585 from North Westwood to County Road GH, traffic controls will be in place from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. to allow bicycle traffic to cross from the north. Slight delays can be expected.
On Deer Lake Road, traffic controls will be in place on Deer Lake Road, 3 miles north of Copper Lake Road from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. to allow bicycle traffic to cross from the west. Slight delays can be expected.
Marquette Township
On Forestville Trail (County Road HT), please use extreme caution if you must travel this road as bicyclists will be utilizing this road from 9:40 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
On Forestville Road, traffic controls will be in place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. near the railroad tracks. Traffic will be limited to one lane (south) for 50 meters near the railroad tracks. Slight delays may be possible.
City of Marquette
Powder Mill Road will be closed at County Road 550 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
On Hawley Street, traffic controls will be in place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the railroad crossing one-eighth of a mile west of Lakeshore Boulevard to allow bicycle traffic to cross Hawley Street. Delays can be expected.
Wright Street will be closed from Presque Isle Avenue to Lakeshore Boulevard from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pine Street will be closed from Fair Avenue to Lakeshore Boulevard from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
