ESCANABA — Saturday night was full of mayhem and destruction as the U.P. State Fairgrounds played host for the 11th annual Armageddon on Wheels.

The show featured its normal events including the bump and run races, tough trucks and the famous figure eight bus races and gauntlet race. In addition, two monster trucks also made an appearance to give people of all ages a taste of monster truck freestyle.

“This is a one-of-a-kind show,” Tom (Bobo) Mannebach said. “You see a lot of crashing and a lot of rubbing. The guys that do their jumps in the truck and buses and monster trucks, these guys leave it all on the track for these fans that come out for the show.”

Elliott Reid picked up a pair of wins on the night as he won in the tough trucks and six cylinder bump and run race.

“I did not expect to win the bump and run race,” Reid said. “I kind of focus more on the tough trucks but people kept dying in front of me and things worked out.”

Reid’s tough truck was the last truck of the 14 trucks registered left standing. “Everybody brings their junkers here,” Reid said. “You never know if you’re going to finish or not. It’s all about having fun but winning doesn’t hurt either.”

In the eight cylinder bump and run, Frisco Barnett won for the second consecutive season.

In the figure eight bus races it was AJ Johnson picking up the win.

“That was one of the wildest things I have ever done,” Johnson said.

Johnson started towards the back of the 16 bus field and continued to work his way up.

“It’s such a disaster out there and you have no idea what’s going on out there,” Johnson said. “I got to thinking I haven’t been passed in a while and I have been passing lots of people then I see the white flag pointing at me and I think this has to be good and just got it around for the final lap and the win.”
