History or e-bike: Something for everyone

MARQUETTE — Elders, would you rather enjoy a history lecture or take a trail ride on an e-bike? Well, these two events geared toward seniors will happen simultaneously on Sept. 18 in Negaunee.

For those who prefer a slower-pace and intellectually stimulating afternoon, visit local historian Virginia Paulson at the Negaunee Senior Center as she leads a lecture focused on the history of Old Town Negaunee.

This will be followed by a barrier-free walk from the center to the Jim Thomas Pavilion in Old Town.

Meanwhile, Love and Bicycle owners Jon and Blake Becker will conduct an interactive e-bike demonstration at the pavilion. Participants may experience a brief introductory ride at no cost.

Bikers have the option to join an Iron Ore Heritage Trail ride. Trail administrator Bob Hendrickson will meet the group east of Negaunee to discuss work being done at a scenic outlook there.

Riders may return to Negaunee with the group or continue east, heading downhill to Lake Superior. Attendees are encouraged to bring their bikes, regular or electric.

A limited number of rental bikes, discounted, will be available through Love and Bicycles. Call ahead to ensure use of a bike 906-401-0096.

These events are sponsored by the Marquette chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel.

A suggested donation of $5 supports the IOHT, the Negaunee History Museum, the MARSP education stipend and the Negaunee Senior Center.

Starting at $3.23/week.
