MARQUETTE — The unofficial results for Tuesday’s primaries are in. In November, Callie Barr will battle it out with incumbent Jack Bergman for Michigan’s 1st Congressional District while incumbent Jenn Hill will face off with Karl Bohnak for the House of Representatives 109th District.
Multi-county district vote totals may be subject to change as votes continue to be counted. These numbers are the most recent as of 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2.
The 1st Congressional District race resulted in two winners, each with a healthy margin of victory.
Democratic candidate Callie Barr beat fellow Democrat Bob Lorinser with 4,893 votes to his 4,866.
According to the Michigan Voter Information Center, Barr received 40,605 votes throughout the complete 1st Congressional District, a majority of 58.5% while Lorinser got 28,857, a minority of 41.5%.
In a Tuesday statement, Barr thanked Lorinser for running and said his efforts are “appreciated across the district.”
Concerning her victory in the Democratic Primary, Barr said, “… Thank you to everyone who voted — for showing up today because that’s what this campaign is about. It’s about showing up for this district, our country — for one another. It’s something Upper and Northern Michiganders know how to do and it’s something the incumbent doesn’t. So let’s do this. Tomorrow starts today. Forward together.”
In the Republican Primary in the same district, incumbent Jack Bergman went up against Joshua Saul.
Bergman reeled in 4,737 votes throughout Marquette County while Saul got only 697.
VIC statistics show that Bergman received 92,181 votes across the district, a majority of 79% while Saul got 24,057, a minority of 21%.
“It has been an honor to serve the First District for nearly 8 years and I look forward to continuing the hard work on behalf of my constituents,” Bergman said. “I’m humbled by their faith in a political outsider like me and I’m ready for our next fight – against radical left policies that are destroying our state and country.”
The House of Representatives 109th District incumbent Democrat Jenn Hill beat fellow candidates Randy Girard and Margaret Brumm with 7,809 votes from Marquette County. Girard got 1,714 votes and Brumm got 389 in the county.
District-wide vote counts for Democrats are as follows: Hill, 9,639; Girard, 1,889; and Brumm, 495, according to the Michigan Voter Information Center.
“I am thrilled to continue my fight for the people of the Upper Peninsula as I seek re-election,” Hill said in a post-election statement. “Together, we can build on the progress we’ve made in healthcare, infrastructure and community suppor to ensure that our families have the resources they need to thrive. I am dedicated to being a strong advocate for U.P. values in Lansing and I look forward to the opportunity to serve our communities for another term.”
