Undersheriff Willey dies after short illness

WILLEY
MARQUETTE — The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday that Undersheriff Daniel Willey has passed away after a short illness.
Willey was an Ishpeming native who had served as a security policeman in the United States Air Force. After leaving the armed forces, Willey joined the Ishpeming Police Department, where he spent 30 years as a patrolman, detective sergeant and chief of police.
In 2017, Marquette County Sheriff Gregory Zyburt appointed Willey as undersheriff.
“Undersheriff Willey’s dedication, kindness and sense of humor will be missed by not only the staff of the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, but the community as a whole,” reads a press release from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.
