8 candidates for open spots on MAPS board, none filed against potential recall election seats
MARQUETTE — The three open seats on the Marquette Area Public Schools Board of Education currently has eight candidates in the running, including two incumbents.
Jennifer Klipp and Jennifer Ray face a potential recall election in November.
As of right now, none of the eight candidates have filed to run against Klipp or Ray. According to Marquette County Clerk Linda Talsma, if the recall is on the ballot, only write-in candidates would be considered in the recall.
The recall effort was started by an opponent of the Marquette Senior High School nickname change. There are 3,692 petition signatures still needed for the recall to take place. The deadline to sign a petition is 4 p.m. Aug. 2.
Kristen Cambensy, Glenn Sarka and James Hewitt have their terms expiring this upcoming December, Hewitt is the current board secretary and treasurer. Cambensy, the current board president and Sarka, the current board vice president, have filed to run again.
The six candidates joining Cambensy and Sarka in the running include Nathan Joyal, Ashley Mattson, Sarah Mills-Gervais, Jim Rankin, Jenn Tousignant, and Cassidy Thomas.
