MARQUETTE — A 63-year-old woman from California was unresponsive after being pulled from Lake Superior at McCarty’s Cove in Marquette, at about 12:20 p.m. Friday police said.

Officers from the Marquette Police Department were dispatched to McCarty’s Cove beach.

The woman was pulled from shallow water by Marquette city lifeguards, who initiated CPR.

Resuscitation efforts continued by Marquette Fire Department and UPHS-Marquette EMS personnel upon arrival.

Further resuscitation efforts were made without success.

According to Marquette police Lt. Chris Aldrich, the victim was pronounced dead. No further information has been made available at this time.

Assisting with this incident was the Marquette Fire Department, Michigan State Police and UPHS-Marquette EMS.
