ISHPEMING — Mission Point Healthcare Services has concluded that its Ishpeming-based nursing facility is no longer economically viable and will be closed, the company reported in a press release.

“This decision was not made lightly, and we deeply appreciate the trust our residents and their families have placed in Mission Point of Ishpeming,” said Robin Miller, vice president of operations at MPHS. “We know this is a difficult situation for all involved and we are committed to continuing to deliver quality care and providing support and guidance to our residents, their families and our employees throughout this challenging transition.”

Mission Point has notified the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services of the closure plan. The process will be implemented in collaboration with MDHHS and will adhere to state and local guidelines to ensure the “seamless transition of residents to suitable skilled nursing facilities,” the release stated.

Currently, Mission Point of Ishpeming houses 33 residents.

The closure process is expected to span approximately 60 days. Throughout that time, MPHS will work to find appropriate placements for residents.

Steps have been taken to provide staff with higher pay and severance packages to incentivize employees to stay on during this transition, ensuring continuity of care and support for our residents.

“Mission Point will work closely with Union Representatives to ensure compliance with all provisions of the collective bargaining agreement,” MPHS wrote. “The well-being of our employees remains an important priority, and we are dedicated to supporting them during this challenging time and to assist them as they transition to new career opportunities.”
