Lights out at Westwood Mall
Marquette Board of Light and Power disconnects service because of unpaid bills
MARQUETTE — The Westwood Mall is closed as of Thursday afternoon after the Marquette Board of Light and Power pulled the plug on electrical service because of unpaid bills.
Westwood Mall manager Joe Ellis said, “We’re having a power issue” but declined further comment.
Employees from the Rampage Room, which is located in the mall, commented on the power issue. On the business’s Facebook page, they posted a notice from the Marquette Board of Light and Power of a potential disconnection of electricity.
The notice detailed that more than one party in the mall, and/or the mall itself, have been delinquent in their payments and are being shut down.
“We have made multiple attempts to resolve the issue with the delinquent parties,” detailed the notice from the BLP. “Power is scheduled for disconnect on or after Wednesday, March 27, 2024.”
Due to this shutoff, the Timber Yeti Axe Range has had to postpone its March Madness tournament, which has been rescheduled to whenever the power issue is resolved.
Multiple businesses in the mall have also been closed until the power comes back on.
Neither the owner of the mall nor the BLP could be reached for comment. Multiple businesses in and around the mall declined to comment on the power shutoff.
