137th annual Ishpeming Ski Club event staged

ISHPEMING -- Undeterred by single-digit temperatures and a Green Bay Packers playoff game, hundreds of people chose to take in the sights and sounds of the 137th annual Ishpeming Ski Club jumping event at Suicide Hill on Saturday.
The yearly ski jumping tournament attracts skiers from all around the U.S. and other countries and is widely considered to be the longest currently active ski jumping tournament in the United States.
The tournament is an official leg of the USA Nordic U.S. Cup and is also a part of the Four Hills tournament. The U.S. Cup portion of the event took place Friday night.
Each year the skiers try to combine jumping distance with style and technique.
The event featured a massive bonfire, food trucks, a beer tent and fireworks which wrapped up Saturday's main event, the Paul Bietila Memorial Tournament.
