MARQUETTE -- The Marquette Winter Games will be held Feb. 9-11, hosted by the Meijer State Games of Michigan in partnership with the Great Lakes Sports Commission.
This is the Meijer State Games' third year in Marquette. The event is a weekend-long tournament similar to the Olympics featuring sports such as archery, bowling, luge, skiing, snowboarding and snow volleyball.
According to the Meijer State Games' website, athletes from Michigan, Minnesota, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Wisconsin and Canada are welcome to compete in the Marquette games.
Friday will begin with the opening ceremony at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Carp River Rail Jam at 8 p.m., both held at the Marquette Mountain Resort.
Indoor archery in Ishpeming will kick off Saturday at 9 a.m. along with shooting sports at the Negaunee Rod and Gun Club.
There are multiple options for winter sports with luge at Lucy Hill in Negaunee and ski and snowboard events at Marquette Mountain.
There will also be pickleball at the Marquette Senior Center and bowling at River Rock Lanes in Ishpeming. The evening will close with curling in Marquette's Lakeview Arena from 4:30-10 p.m.
Sunday will see curling resume at 8 a.m. and continuing until noon. Archery, shooting sports, luge and skiing will take place at the same times as Saturday.
There will also be wrestling at the Superior Dome, a sled hockey demo in Lakeview Arena and snow volleyball at River Rock Lanes.
On Feb. 17-18, the Marquette Figure Skating Club and the Ron Carlson Marquette International Open will host figure skating at NMU's Berry Events Center. This event will have its own opening ceremony.
