ISHPEMING -- No injuries occurred during a structure fire over the weekend.
According to the city of Ishpeming Fire Department, improper use of a candle caused a structure fire along the 600 block of North Third Street in Ishpeming at 1:35 p.m. Saturday.
"Upon arrival, fire crews found a two-story home with light smoke showing from a second-story window on the side of the structure," a press release from the fire department said. "Firefighters found a mattress on fire in a second-story bedroom. Initial fire attack successfully put out the fire."
The fire was contained to the room where the fire started. The home sustained moderate smoke and water damage, according to the fire department.
Crews remained on scene for around an hour to vent the structure.
According to the press release, the building was occupied at the time of the fire but all residents were able to get out. There were no firefighter injuries.
Pigs-N-Heat and the Red Cross will assist residents.
The Ishpeming Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Ishpeming Police Department, Negaunee City Fire Department, Marquette County Rescue 131, Marquette County Central Dispatch, SEMCO and UPPCO.
