NEGAUNEE -- The newly established Special Advisory Committee on Economic Impacts of Recreational Trails has its seven members.

City Manager Nate Heffron announced on Monday the appointment of seven members to the Special Advisory Committee on Economic Impacts of Recreational Trails. Members appointed by Heffron were Mayor Dave Kangas, Danny Hill from the mountain bike community, Joanie Gleason from the horseback riding community, Tom St. Aubin from the snowmobiling community, Dale Rogers from the ORV community, Bob Hendrickson from the Iron Ore Heritage Trail Authority and Jon Becker from downtown Negaunee businesses.

According to a June 19 announcement from the city on the committee's establishment, "the committee will assist in accessing the current physical conditions of recreation trail systems in Negaunee, repairs or upgrades needed or suggested new trail systems."

The committee will also access the economic impact of these trails and suggest amenity improvements to draw in trail users to the downtown area.

Upon completion of their duties, the committee will forward its findings to the city council.

"We hope that we continue to grow our outdoor recreation and tourism economy through this committee's work," Heffron said in a press release. "Negaunee is in the perfect position to benefit further with so many great recreation trails found throughout our community."
