ESCANABA — Two people have been charged in connection with a stabbing that took place at an Escanaba bar last Saturday.

The stabbing occurred at 12:24 a.m. in the back lounge area of The Granada, 330 S. 10th St. in Escanaba. Escanaba Public Safety officers were called to the bar after a report of a man being stabbed. When they arrived at the bar, officers found that a man had been stabbed in the abdomen.

The victim, whose name has not been released, suffered serious injuries and was taken by Rampart EMS to OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba for treatment.

Roma Stanley Maier and Leah-Anne Marie Wera were later arrested in connection with the stabbing and lodged at the Delta County Jail. Both were arraigned Monday on charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison or $5,000.

Delta County Central Dispatch, the Delta County Sheriff’s Office, the Delta County Prosecutor’s Office, Rampart EMS and Michigan State Police at the Gladstone Post assisted in the case.
