MARQUETTE -- Assistant United States Attorney Ted Greeley has been named federal prosecutor of the year for the Western District of Michigan.
"I was surprised, which quickly gave way to feeling honored," Greeley said. "Since joining the U.S. Attorney's Office in 2019, I've had the privilege of working with a lot of great prosecutors. I've strived to be as great as they are, and this makes me feel like I am achieving that level of excellence."
After law school, Greeley said he spent a year as a clerk for Judge David McKeague of the 6th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. He then spent two years at a large, Detroit-based law firm primarily doing civil work.
"But Marquette has always been home, and when offered the opportunity to work for Casselman & Henderson, PC, in 2015, I made my way back to Marquette," Greeley said. "I spent about four years learning from and working with Sarah Henderson before joining the U.S. Attorney's office in June of 2019."
Greeley said he's learned a lot about how to approach different situations involving those impacted by crime in his role as AUSA. He also said he'd like to see the Marquette branch office of the U.S. Attorney's Office continue to "thrive" and hopefully expand over the next few years.
"The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Michigan is incredibly lucky to have AUSA Ted Greeley leading our Marquette office," U.S. Attorney Mark Totten said. "Ted deeply shares our mission to protect the public; he's connected with our partners across the region; he's smart; and his integrity shines in everything he does. I'm grateful for this recent recognition."
