Stephenson man sentenced for child sexually abusive material
MARQUETTE — A 37-year-old Stephenson man has been sentenced to 2 to 10 years in prison for aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material.
Mark William Koldos was sentenced on Friday by 41st Circuit Court Judge Christopher S. Ninomiya.
Police said that the Michigan State Police discovered in 2019 that Koldos had been sending videos and images of girls estimated between 10 and 12 years of age to his twin brother, who was an inmate at Wisconsin’s Oshkosh Correctional Institution. Koldos then fled to Virginia and was living under an alias there when he was arrested in October 2021 and extradited back to Michigan to face charges.
“While the internet is indispensable to our lives, it does have a dark side: pictures and videos that capture the sexual abuse of children are more common and easier to access than ever,” said Menominee County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffrey T. Rogg. “In 2021 alone, more than 29 million reports of suspected child sexual exploitation were reported by online platforms to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s CyberTipline and that number is growing.”
