OutBack, Art on the Rocks set for weekend

MARQUETTE -- Two popular art festivals are coming to Marquette this weekend.
The 29th annual OutBack Art Fair, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, will be at Shiras Park. Unique Upper Peninsula art will be spotlighted, such as paintings of natural Marquette scenery, hand-crafted wooden furniture, jewelry, recycled yard art and more. Admission is free.
"It's just a great weekend of art in the U.P.," OutBack organizer Cindy Engle said.
The Art Drop Shop & Studio, based in Marquette, will run a kids' tent with projects for youngsters, Engle said.
A variety of food also will be available, including kettle corn, Lemon Squeezers, the Journey's Eatz food truck, DaH Pretzel Guys and Davin's Chocolates, according to the event website at outbackartfair.com.
"We've got things to keep people busy all day," Engle said.
The 63rd annual Art on the Rocks is set for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Mattson Lower Harbor Park. Admission is free.
Art on the Rocks is presented by the Lake Superior Art Association.
LSSA member Anita Meyland established Art on the Rocks in 1959, a fine art show that got its name from the rocky hillside surrounding its original home, Father Marquette Park.
Art on the Rocks is sponsored by Travel Marquette, Higher Love, WLUC-TV6, the city of Marquette, Beth Millner Jewelry, QuickTrophy, the Northern Michigan University Police Academy, North Country Disposal, Honor Credit Union, Michele Tuccini, Jack and Cindy Deo, and Marlene Wood.
A variety of artists from Michigan and several other states are expected to show their work, which includes paintings, ceramics, jewelry, glass art, sculptures and more.
