ISHPEMING -- Fire truck lovers and history buffs are invited to visit the Ishpeming Fire Department on Wednesday.
The Ishpeming Fire Department will host an open house celebration in honor of the city's 150th anniversary from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Attendees will be able to explore the historic Ishpeming Fire Hall, see old-style hand pumps and horse hose carts and new and old fire trucks.
"This is a great opportunity for the residents and visitors of our city to experience the history of the Ishpeming Fire Department and come together to celebrate our 150th anniversary," said Ishpeming Fire Department Chief Jason Annala in a press release. "It's not every day that people have the opportunity to get an inside look into the fascinating history of the fire department and we couldn't be more excited to welcome guests in and provide them this unique experience."
On April 10, 1873, Ishpeming shifted from a village into a city, establishing a city government and fire department.
According to the city's website, the fire department's mission is to "minimize the exposure of the city of Ishpeming to the consequences of fire and environmental emergencies through prevention, planning and response."
