Arrest made after suspect flees

MARQUETTE — A person was taken into custody Wednesday evening after they fled from police.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that it responded to a call on Werner Street in Marquette Township about an individual who had made a death threat. It had also recieved multiple calls about a reckless driver in a vehicle matching the description of the individual’s vehicle.

A deputy intercepted the individual on South Vandenboom Road in Marquette Township at 9:30 p.m. The person fled the scene after the traffic stop was initiated. Police pursued the vehicle through Whetstone Village and onto U.S. 41. The car chase ended in a grassy area at the intersection of U.S. 41 and McClellan Avenue in Marquette where the person was taken into custody.

Police say that drugs could be a contributing factor in the individual’s behavior. The person is expected to be charged for multiple offenses. The incident remains under investigation.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Northern Michigan University Police Department, Michigan State Police, Marquette Police Department, Marquette City Fire Department and Marquette Detailing.
