MENOMINEE -- Tavis Dean Hetrick, 30, of Ishpeming has been sentenced to 54 months to 20 years in prison for delivery of methamphetamine, Menominee County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffrey T. Rogg announced.
Judge Christopher S. Ninomiya handed down the prison sentence on Friday in the 41st Circuit Court.
Hetrick was convicted by plea on March 21.
On Feb. 2, 2022, a confidential informant for the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team reported to Detective Michael Groleau that Hetrick sold him 14.3 grams of methamphetamine at the Island Resort and Casino in Harris Township for $350 of UPSET funds.
After the transaction, the informant gave the drugs to Groleau, who conducted a TruNarc test on it, with a positive result for methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance.
"Mr. Hetrick has been convicted twice previously of controlled substance offenses, including delivery of methamphetamine, and has yet another controlled substance case pending in Marquette, contemporaneous with this one," Rogg said in a statement. "This is a man who simply will not stop preying on the people of the Upper Peninsula.
"If you're slinging poison in our communities, your days are numbered. UPSET and our local Menominee County drug teams are coming after you, whoever you are. Menominee County is a safer place today and another drug offender is behind bars."
Rogg said he is proud of the work performed in the case by the "dedicated" men and women of UPSET and his law enforcement partners.
"Together, we are committed to holding criminals accountable for violence and drug trafficking, as we work to keep Menominee County safe," he said.
