Boy Scouts do their part to get gravesites ready for Memorial Day

BIG BAY
Big Bay will have a memorial service at its Veterans Memorial Park at 11 a.m.
GLADSTONE
The Memorial Day ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone.

The Memorial Day program is sponsored by the August Mattson American Legion Post #71 of Gladstone. After the ceremony at the cemetery, everyone is invited to the Gladstone Yacht Club for the Casting of the Flowered Wreath on the water to honor those veterans who have lost their lives at sea. Both programs will end with a 21-gun salute from the Post #71 Rifle Squad and “Taps” from the Gladstone High School Band.
GWINN
Forsyth Township’s Memorial Day will include 9:45 a.m. wreath laying at Veterans Memorial Park. 10 a.m. parade from Nordeen Park to Gwinn Cemetery, and 11:30 a.m. Bakkala Cemetery.
ISHPEMING
Memorial Day ceremonies are set for the Ishpeming area and will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Ishpeming Cemetery.

Flagbearers will procede from the St. Joseph’s Church parking lot, led by Pierre Ogea in his Scottish Highland regalia.
A program will follow with a number of organizations paying tribute to their fallen brothers and sisters: VFW Post 4573 and Auxiliary, American Legion Post 114 and Auxiliary, VVA Chapter 380 and Auxiliary, AMVETS Post 122 and Auxiliary, and the Greater Ishpeming Pioneer Kiwanis.
The program will have patriotic presentations, dedications, patriotic songs, military honors, a rifle salute and the playing of “Taps.”
MARQUETTE
The Richard M. Jopling American Legion Post 44 will honor the women and men who sacrificed their lives with two services on Memorial Day.

A 9:30 a.m. service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, followed by a 10:15 a.m. service at Park Cemetery in the city of Marquette.
The Marine Corps League, Vietnam Veterans Chapter 380, VFW Post 6, Girls/Boys Scouts, Elks Lodge 405 Ritual Team, Post 44 Auxiliary along with Jill Weingarten (singer) and Steve Krook (“Taps”) will assist with these services. Light snacks will be provided at Post 44 following the 10:15 service.
Also, a private service will be held at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans on Memorial Day at 1:30 p.m. by a small group of Post 44 members. This is due to the restrictions that exist there.
NEGAUNEE
Negaunee VFW Post 3165 and Auxiliary will be observing Memorial Day on Monday with a parade and three memorial services.

At 10 a.m., the parade will start at the corner of Gold and Iron streets, continuing east on Iron Street to Pioneer Avenue, north on Pioneer to Main Street, east on Main Street to McKenzie Avenue, north on McKenzie to Case Street, west on Case Street and back into the downtown area.
After the parade, memorial services will be held at the Negaunee Cemetery and Northland Chapel Gardens.
The public is invited to V.A. Romo VFW Post 3165, 208 Gold St., following services. A light lunch will be served.
