WRESTLE!

MARQUETTE — A bad weekend for chairs, trash cans and Spanish announcer’s tables means a good weekend for entertainment in Marquette as UPW presents Marquette Mania, a professional wrestling event slated for Saturday night.

The event is put on by Upper Peninsula-based promoter UPW and has a lineup full of local talent and legends including headliners WWE Hall of Famers and Michigan natives The Steiner Brothers, along with former WWE mainstay Tatanka.

Fans will have an opportunity to purchase tickets for a meet-and-greet with the stars before the show begins, with the meet-and-greet starting at 5 p.m.

Marquette Mania gets underway Saturday evening at the Lakeview Arena, with the show starting at 7 p.m., with some proceeds from the show going to benefit the Bay Cliff Health Camp and Marquette County Youth Football.

UPW has been putting on shows since 1999 all around the U.P. and has worked with many notable names in the industry. Promoter Peter Sischo says that fans attending the show can expect variety.

“Legends as well as some hungry, up-and-coming wrestlers,” Sischo said. “We have some local guys, some hardcore matches, comedy matches, high-flying matches, matches with a story to be told; it’s going to be great.”

Sischo says that even those who don’t typically like wrestling can be sure that the show will have something for anyone to be able to enjoy.

“One big thing that I like to tell everyone is that, whether you’re a fan or not, UPW will offer you a night of entertainment. There is something for everyone,” Sischo said. “It’s like the circus. If you don’t like the clowns that are on now, you’ll enjoy the guy getting shot out of a cannon later on.”

Tickets for the show, as well as the meet-and-greets, can be purchased at the Northern Michigan University ticket office, or ordered online at tinyurl.com/UPWMarquette.
