Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library showcasing history since 1904

EDITOR'S NOTE: This is part two of a six-part series on local libraries in Marquette County for Library Appreciation Week.
ISHPEMING -- The Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library has been showcasing history since 1904.
"The library is truly a community hub that brings people together," ICPL librarian Nicole Johnson said in an email. "Whether it is through book clubs, craft programs or other events, libraries connect people via shared interests and promote an environment of learning."
Johnson said libraries are also innovative places that work to bring new and exciting resources to its patrons. The most recent addition to ICPL is the Strawberry Hill Seed Library that allows people to check out seeds for their gardens. The seed library had its grand opening on Earth Day.
"The seed library brings sustainability and food education in the community," Johnson said. "Other programs that are continually offered at the library are storytimes at 11 a.m. on Tuesdays, monthly book clubs, author visits and various special presentations throughout the year."
She said libraries are all about the community.
"Through the resources, programs and services we provide at the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library, we constantly work to serve the community in new and exciting ways," Johnson said.
Johnson said libraries are important because they are a place where people are welcome to spend time, use resources and attend programs for free.
"Libraries are truly for everyone and at the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library," she said. "We strive to ensure that every single person that walks through the door feels welcomed and is greeted by a friendly face."
For this year's National Library Appreciation Week, Johnson said to check out the library's Facebook page and website, and to visit the library.
"National Library Week is all about continuing to showcase how libraries are there to support their communities through the programs and resources that are available," Johnson said.
For the rest of the week, ICPL's National Library Week events are:
≤ Today: At 11 a.m., Tot Tuesday preschool story time. This program features stories, songs and crafts for preschoolers. From 3-5 p.m., ICPL will hold a book fair for teens.
≤ Wednesday: ICPL will visit the Ishpeming Senior Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for National Library Outreach Day to sign individuals up for library cards and share resources at the library. From 4:30-6:30 p.m., the library will show "A Man Called Otto" in the Ray Leverton Community Room.
≤ Friday: At 11 a.m., Little Explorers will be held in the children's room. Little Explorers is a sensory program for newborns up to 5-year-olds.
≤ Saturday: From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be a special drop-in craft available for children to make pastel tulips.
According to ICPL's press release on National Library Week, the lineup of events showcases the range of resources and programs that are regularly offered by the library to support Ishpeming.
