Goof-Fest scholarship benefit celebration set for Saturday

NEGAUNEE -- The Goof-Fest scholarship benefit celebration is scheduled for Saturday.
The event will be held at Smarty's Saloon in Negaunee from 1-5 p.m. and will feature Pierre Ogea Karaoke, prizes and more.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Alan "Goofus" Ammesmaki Negaunee High School Scholarship Program. Two seniors from Negaunee High School will be awarded the scholarship.
Ammesmaki was known for his one-man band and played his polkacello "Betty" before passing in March 2018.
"We are going to have prizes and 50/50s and will also be selling T-shirts, with all proceeds going to the fund," event organizer Scott Soeltner said. "We are celebrating the world's greatest fan and that is why we want to keep his name alive -- he did so much for his community. He loved his school. We want his name to live forever by continuing to give two seniors from Negaunee High School a scholarship every year in his name."
Goofus was also known for his "spirited support" of Negaunee High School, Northern Michigan University and Michigan State University.
