City to celebrate 150th anniversar

ISHPEMING -- The city of Ishpeming is planning to celebrate the 150th anniversary of its charter.

On Monday, the Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce will host a Business After Hours event at the Ishpeming Historical Museum with the historical society to celebrate Ishpeming's 150th anniversary.

The celebration will be held on the third floor of the Gossard Building in the Ishpeming Historical Museum from 5-7 p.m. and will include a tour of the museum, drinks and light snacks along with door prizes.

"Each of the Business After Hours events have their own characteristics to them," GINCC Director Bob Hendrickson said. "All of the Business After Hours are fun. What's so special about this one is that it's a pretty significant historic date."

Hendrickson said that he is looking forward to the celebration and being able to help organize the celebration on behalf of the GINCC.

"We feel like it's a great asset to the community to be part of and also be able to assemble the activities and to do the promotion," Hendrickson said. "It makes us feel honored to be participating in that."

This is the first of several events to celebrate the 150 years that Ishpeming has been a city.
