MARQUETTE — The Michigan State Police Negaunee Post is investigating a fatal car fire that took place in Ewing Township on Friday.

Police say that at approximately 3:20 a.m. Friday troopers from the Negaunee Post were dispatched to a vehicle fire on West Maple Ridge Road in Ewing Township. Officers received a call saying that a car was on fire in the middle of the roadway. Fire department personnel arrived and extinguished the fire prior to officers arriving at the scene.

After the fire was extinguished, a deceased person was found inside of the burned-out vehicle. Troopers on the scene notified detectives from the Negaunee Post for assistance in the investigation. The MSP Marquette Forensic Lab was also brought in to assist with the investigation.

Officers were assisted at the scene by personnel from the Tri-Township Fire Department.

While the victim is unable to be positively identified at this time, a GoFundMe campaign is underway for Cole Possi, father of two, who died on March 17 after his vehicle unexpectedly exploded with him and his dog inside, according to the GoFundMe site.

The GoFundMe page for Possi can be found at https://gf.me/v/c/33y9/cole-possi-memorial.
