MARQUETTE — A fundraiser has been set up to help a Negaunee family after a fire destroyed its Negaunee home Friday night.

The GoFundMe was set up by Gregory Zyburt to help his sister, Heidi Wolck, her two children and their two dogs who are dealing with the catastrophic loss of their two cats and all of their possessions.

“On the night of Nov. 18, my sister Heidi lost her house to a fire in Negaunee Township. She heard a loud explosion upstairs and when she went to look it was full of flames,” Zyburt wrote on the GoFundMe page. “The house is a total loss. She is a single mother of two teenagers and they basically left with nothing but the clothes on their backs.”

The family is temporarily being housed at a local motel thanks to the Pigs ‘N’ Heat charity, which provides resources and hotel accommodations for Upper Peninsula families who are the victims of house fires.

“When it’s your family member, you’re at a loss,” Zyburt said. “The next day, I went to take a look and everything was destroyed. Thank God they were able to get out of that house.”

Zyburt said that the family has been touched by the way the community has shown up to support the family.

“I’ve been overwhelmed with the people reaching out and contacting me and seeing how they can help,” Zyburt said. “They have two big dogs and they have been trying to find housing for them. We are very appreciative of Pigs ‘N’ Heat. We are starting to get a plan together to find a place where they can reside.”
