MSP release info on fatal M-28 accident
NEGAUNEE — The Michigan State Police have released information regarding a fatal traffic accident that occurred on M-28 in Schoolcraft County Sunday afternoon.
Police said that 31-year-old Matthew Morgrette of Colorado was driving his Chevrolet pickup eastbound along M-28 when a Honda passenger car’s roof rack, which was carrying a kayak, became dislodged and struck the vehicle driven by Morgrette.
Police said that the roof rack pierced the windshield of the truck, causing a fatal injury to Morgrette, who was traveling in the pickup with his wife. She was uninjured in the accident.
The Honda car was driven by a 58-year-old Wisconsin man who was not injured in the accident.
The crash remains under investigation and will be forwarded to the Schoolcraft County prosecutor for review once the investigation is complete. The investigation caused a portion of M-28 to be closed for a time.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Alger County Sheriff’s Office, Seney first responders and Alger County Emergency Medical Services.
