Locals to serve on state boards

LANSING –Two Upper Peninsula residents have been appointed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to key posts the governor’s office announced Thursday.

The first of the appointments is Robin Chosa of Baraga on the Michigan Board of Counseling. Chosa is the owner of Rez Robbins LLC, a business that operates as a food vendor providing catering for local festivals and pow wows on the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community.

Chosa is also an operations manager for the Ford Center in Alberta. Chosa holds a bachelor of science and psychology from Michigan Tech University. His term will run from Oct. 27 until June 2025. Chosa succeeds Charles Corley in the post. Corley’s term expired in June.

The second appointment is Robert Meyers of Marquette. Meyers was one of two appointments to the Michigan Ski Safety Advisory Board. The board licenses and regulates ski areas and ski lifts throughout the state by working with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, which oversees ski areas, surface and chair lifts as well as rope tows.

Meyers is a volunteer ski patroller. He is also a retired supervisor for the Upper Peninsula Power Company. Meyers holds a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from MTU.

He has been recognized by the National Ski Patrol Association Hall of Fame, Meyers’ term officially began Thursday and will continue through June 2026.

He succeeds Matthew Torreano in the post. Torreano’s term expired in June.
