NEGAUNEE — Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter’s biggest annual fundraiser, Strut Your Mutt, will be held from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at a new location. Instead of the usual location, Marquette’s Ellwood A. Mattson Lower Harbor Park, UPAWS will host the event at Jackson Mine Park in Negaunee.

Chairperson of the event and treasurer of the UPAWS fundraising committee Chris Danik made the change in location due to the beautiful landscape available in the Jackson Mine Park. Getting out of Marquette also provides more opportunities for those who may not live in that city, Danik said.

Strut Your Mutt has been going 17 years strong with more than 200 guests showing up each year to support the shelter. Participants will receive a goodie bag, a Strut Your Mutt bandana and access to a breakfast bar with coffee, donuts, fruit, juice and more.

Halfway through the walk, a rest station will be set up. Water will be provided for both people and pets.

Attendees and their pets will walk less than a mile down a scenic park trail. At the end, the Journey-Z-Eats food truck will be providing food along with food donated from other local restaurants and stores.

The Rescue Raffle winner will be drawn at noon along with other basket raffles sponsored by local businesses, contests will be held, music will be supplied by a DJ from Double Trouble Entertainment and vendors will be set up on site. Vendors tentatively include TacoMo Dog Training, Lume Cannabis Co., Dogs Beyond the Fence, D&D Dog Dynamics and many others.

Registration for the event is available online prior to and in-person during the event at upaws.org.
