Search for new NMU president narrows to four candidates

MARQUETTE — The ongoing search for the new president of Northern Michigan University has been narrowed to four candidates, according to information released by the university Monday.

NMU is planning to host the four finalists for the position that opened after former President Fritz Erickson’s contract was terminated by the NMU Board of Trustees last September. The university announced that the candidates will be hosted on campus between Thursday and Sept. 22.

“The Presidential Search Advisory Committee is very excited to have selected four excellent candidates for on-campus interviews. I want to thank the members of the committee for their hard work and perseverance,” said Chris Greer, chair of the presidential search committee and dean of students at NMU. “It is important for us to conduct an open search and to be transparent about the process. We hope that students, faculty, staff and the community will take advantage of the opportunity to meet each candidate and provide feedback to the Board of Trustees.”

The NMU board said it will release names and information about the four candidates on the day prior to their campus visits. An interview process with the full board for the candidates is scheduled for Sept. 26.
