Furnace fire extinguished

MARQUETTE — The Marquette City Fire Department extinguished a furnace fire in a structure along Grove Street on Monday.

MCFD said it responded to 711 Grove St. at about 4:30 p.m. for a furnace issue with smoke in the house. A structure fire was declared on arrival, and its mutual aid departments were requested.

A crew entered the structure with an attack line and went to the furnace in the basement.

Flames, which were seen exiting the furnace, were extinguished. The house was checked for fires elsewhere, with none located. The house was cleared of smoke using a positive pressure fan, with crews cleared at 5:36 p.m.

Assisting MCFD were the Marquette City Police Department, the Marquette Township Fire Department, the Chocolay Township Fire Department, UP Health System Unit 141, the Marquette Board of Light and Power and the Semco Energy Gas Company.
