MARQUETTE — The Marquette Regional History Center will be hosting a Maggie Linn Bogdan art collection final liquidation sale from 5-8 p.m. Thursday and Friday in the Fred Rydholm Gathering Hall.

The event will feature a large assortment of original watercolors, limited edition prints and more, with hundreds of pieces on display. Other works will include Nita Engle, Paul Grant, Kathleen Conover and Jerry Junak. Friends and admirers of fine art are welcome to attend.

Beverages and snacks will be served and a portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the MRHC. Payment for any piece can be paid for by cash or check made out to the Margaret F. Linn Bogdan estate.

Linn was born on Nov. 7, 1927, as the eldest of four children. Her German-American mother and Chinese father moved to Singapore when she was 2 years old to join her father’s family. When World War II and the Sino-Japanese War broke out, her mother and youngest brother fled with her to British-controlled India. There they were placed in a refugee camp before eventually joining a convent that charitably welcomed refugees and orphans.

When the war ended, the three of them left India and relocated to Chicago. This experience, along with her mixed heritage, left an impact on Linn and her work.

In her adult life, Linn was a world-class watercolor painter. She quickly moved up the ranks from commercial design to being in charge of 50 other artists, including world-renowned watercolor painter and close friend, Nita Engle.

“Maggie had the ability to capture nature in a very special way,” said Libby Bogdan Lovis, who is assisting in organizing the event.

After her work in Chicago, Linn moved tto the Upper Peninsula and became a member of the American Watercolor Society. Linn then met and married Ted Bogdan and became a stepmother. Linn passed away on Dec. 10 at the age of 94.
