Nifty 250 event seeks to raise money for Women’s Center

MARQUETTE — The Women’s Center of Marquette will be hosting the Nifty 250 fundraising event Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Drifa Brewing Company in Marquette.

The Nifty 250 will feature fun, prizes, beer and music, all for a good cause. Funds raised from the event will go to benefit the Women’s Center to help with its mission of protecting victims of domestic violence.

The goal of the event is to collect 250 donations of $250. The Women’s Center estimates that $250 will cover the expenses for a family for one week at the Women’s Center Harbor House and will provide food, clothing and housing in a place of safety. While $250 donations are the stated goal, people are encouraged to donate whatever they can. The funding can also go for legal advocacy, support services, therapy and more.

The campaign runs from Monday through July 6.

“This is one of the three annual fundraising campaigns that we do,” said Andrea Numikoski, Women’s Center development director. “The event was previously known as 100 Good Men or 200 Good Men but this year we changed the name to the Nifty 250 to make sure that it is known that we are inclusive. We have services for transgender people, males and females. We have services and programs for everyone.”

The Nifty 250 will also feature drawings for prizes, including two tickets to any Disney park and a door prize consisting of beach-related items. There will also be live music from Marquette-area surf rock trio Ramble Tamble. Food will be available from the Dia De Los Tacos truck.

“Who doesn’t like beer and mixing with the community?” Numikoski said. “It’s really community supporting community. One way or another, everyone has been touched by this issue. We want to make sure that we keep getting the word out about our services and in doing so hope that everyone can come out and have a great time.”

For those who are unable to make the event, a check donation can be mailed to the Women’s Center, located at 1310 S. Front St. in Marquette. The Women’s Center can be contacted at 906-225-1346.
