ISHPEMING — The city of Ishpeming announced Tuesday that construction will begin today on a new campground along Malton Road.

All trails crossing through the construction site will be closed from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily beginning today. Heavy equipment will be moving throughout the area and the city advises bikers, walkers, hikers and horse riders to avoid the area for their safety.

Those traveling along Malton Road will see signage that will alert residents as they are entering the construction zone. The city says that contractors are aware that not every resident will be aware of the project and will work diligently to ensure the safety of residents but also ask that the community help raise awareness about the project.

The project is tentatively scheduled to wrap up Sept. 2.

The new rustic campground is designed to improve the landscape while bettering access to the already existing local trail system. The trails offer direct access from the city of Ishpeming.
