Restaurant project coming to Marquette Township

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Township Planning Commission on Wednesday unanimously approved a site plan for a proposed 4,200-square-foot restaurant/retail facility to be located just east of Fraco Concrete Products along U.S. 41 in Marquette Township.

The site will be accessed by the existing driveway off U.S. 41, which has been approved by the Michigan Department of Transportation, said Jason McCarthy, township planning and zoning administrator.

“From our perspective, we are fortunate to have such a successful development team working in Marquette Township,” McCarthy said in an email. “T.J.Maxx, PetSmart, Ulta, Shoe Sensation, Lowe’s, Meijer, Fraco and Burger King are all within the portfolio of the development group.

“This proposed restaurant/retail facility will be the only one located in the Upper Peninsula and we are proud to feature it in Marquette Township.”

McCarthy declined to name the restaurant brand, but pointed out it will be the only one located in the U.P. for the time being.

However, on township staff report, it is noted that the restaurant will be a bakery cafe.

The estimated cost of the project is $680,000.

McCarthy said the project is expected to be completed this year.
