MARQUETTE — Several area youth recently won a prize that could be considered a dream come true for students of all ages: A ride to school in a fire truck.

It was a reward for winning submissions in the Marquette City Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Poster Contest, which featured 270 submissions from four of the Marquette elementary schools.

Four winners were picked to represent their respective schools.

The winners are:

The Fire Prevention Poster Contest was part of the Marquette City Fire Department’s 2021 Fire Prevention Month activities.

Fire Prevention Month got the word out to hundreds of students this year, with 420 elementary students participating in the fire prevention site visits at the four schools. It also included 242 kids, ages 3-12, participating in fire station tours, with more than 130 hours of work from the department to make it all come together.
