More than $600K awarded to arts, culture organizations across the Upper Peninsula

MARQUETTE — Thirteen Marquette County entities have been awarded grant funding from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.

Council members announced recently that $176,275 was awarded to Marquette County, with 12 entities from the city of Marquette and one from the city of Ishpeming.

The organizations receiving funding were the Hiawatha Music Co-op, $11,250; Lake Superior Theater, $13,750; Liberty Children’s Art Project, $11,825; City of Marquette Art Week, $7,600; the Marquette City Band, $10,450; the Marquette County Historical Society, $19,500; the Marquette Maritime Museum, $16,250; the Marquette Symphony Orchestra, $16,250; the Marquette-Alger Regional Educational Service Agency, $12,000; Superior Arts Youth Theater, $18,750; the Superior String Alliance, $13,750; the Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum, $19,500; and Ishpeming Public Schools, $5,400.
