Times set for local Halloween festivities

Get ready to pack bags full of candy and dress up spooky because Halloween trick-or-treating is set to take place on Sunday evening around the Upper Peninsula.
While trick-or-treating is a family-friendly activity, it's important to bring the proper materials and make sure you have your route planned out ahead of time, Marquette Police Department Capt. Mike Laurila said.
"Parents keep an eye on your kids and make sure you have visuals on them at all times," he said. "In addition, make sure you follow the rules of the road and wear reflectors on your costume. I know it is an exciting time for kids but be aware of your surroundings. We want everyone to have fun, but also (a) safe time."
Trick-or-treating will take place on Sunday, and recommended hours for surrounding cities are as follows:
City of Marquette -- 4-7 p.m.
City of Negaunee -- 4-7 p.m.
City of Ishpeming -- 5-7 p.m.
Ishpeming Township -- 5-7 p.m.
City of Munising -- 5-7 p.m.
Forsyth Township -- 5-8 p.m.
Another thing that trick-or-treaters have to take into account is to ensure that they are following proper COVID-19 procedures, Laurila said.
"Follow all guidelines, social distancing is always a good idea," Laurila said. "If you are (feeling) sick, do not hand out candy or go out trick-or-treating. Remember to stay clear of anyone who has been exposed to COVID-19 and use common sense."
The CDC recommends everyone to wear a well-fitting mask over their nose during events that are going to be crowded. They also recommend that if you are sick or have COVID-19 symptoms, do not host or attend any gatherings.
When going out, not only is it important to know what route you plan to follow, but also have the materials you need to stay safe, Ishpeming City Manager Craig Cugini said.
"We encourage parents to check the kids' candy (to see) if anything appears off, and if you plan to go out trick-or-treating, to bring a flashlight and wear reflectors. Our goal is to encourage people to go out and have a fun time trick-or-treating," Cugini said.
