Man shot in Chocolay Township, dies in hospital

HARVEY — Chocolay Township Police Department officers responded to a report of a shooting at a residence in the 700 block of Willow Road this morning, according to a department press release.

Officers found a 37-year-old male with two gunshot wounds to the chest. Life saving measures began immediately; the male was transported by UP Health System-Marquette paramedics to the emergency room where he died from his wounds.

Another adult male at the residence suffered a non-life threating knife wound and was treated at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

No arrests have been made at this time. Officers emphasize that there is no danger to the public. The incident remains under investigation.

No names are being released, pending review by the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office.

Chocolay officers were assisted by Michigan State Police, Marquette County Sheriff’s deputies and UP Health System-Marquette EMS.
