Body of missing man found

SENEY — The body of Thomas Szafran of Au Train, 62 — who in August had been reported missing — has been found, the Michigan State Police reported.

On Thursday, a township employee in the Seney area was maintaining an area along M-28 when he observed vehicle tracks going around 100 yards into a heavily wooded ditch. The tracks led to an overturned truck matching the description of the vehicle last seen in possession of the missing Au Train man.

Inside the truck, a deceased male was located. Investigators later confirmed the identity of the deceased male as Szafran. It appears the truck went off the roadway into the wooded ditch area and overturned, police said. No foul play is suspected, according to a news release.

The crash remains under investigation by troopers from the Manistique Outpost. MSP said Szafran left his Au Train residence in the early morning hours of Aug. 24 in an unknown direction and had not been heard from since.
