One injured in head-on collision after utility trailer separates from truck

NEGAUNEE — A woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident late Tuesday afternoon in Negaunee Township.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office reported that at about 5:14 p.m. Tuesday, it was dispatched to a head-on collision on U.S. 41 at Pond Road.

A 53-year-old Marquette resident was driving westbound on U.S. 41 when the utility trailer he was pulling separated from his truck. The trailer traveled across the median just west of Pond Road and made contact with an eastbound Buick driven by a 31-year-old Negaunee Township woman.

The Buick left the roadway and came to rest against a trailer parked on the lawn of Window Outfitters. The female’s vehicle sustained heavy damage, and she had to be removed from the vehicle with the assistance of the Jaws of Life.

She was transported UP Health System – Marquette via ambulance for treatment of her injuries.

The utility trailer, a Window Outfitters trailer, and a scissor lift that had been on the utility trailer also were damaged in the crash.

The male was issued a citation for having an unsecured load, police said.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police, Negaunee Township Fire, UPHS EMS, Rescue 131, Mr. Wrecker and Midway Rentals and Sales.
