Inaugural celebration for Negaunee Public Schools Hall of Fame set for Friday

MARQUETTE — The inaugural Negaunee Public Schools Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place Friday at the Lakeview Memorial Gymnasium. The ceremony will honor the inductees from 2020 and 2021, celebrating the inaugural event that was postponed due to the pandemic.

The event honoring nominees will start at 5:30 p.m Friday when the social begins. At 6 p.m., dinner begins and the awards ceremony will take place at 7 p.m.

“As a district, we are so excited and definitely looking forward to honoring the inductees and showing our appreciation for how much they have contributed to the district.” Negaunee Public Schools Superintendent Dan Skewis said. “The Hall of Fame was established in January 2020, with the first group of inductees being recognized in May of last year … We expect 150 people to attend the dinner and awards ceremony. The eight people who are being honored have done so much for our district during their time as an employee or as a community member. It’s a well-rounded group as we will recognize a super fan, superb music teachers and successful coaches.”

The school in January released a form for the public to submit nominations for current and former Negaunee Public School employees, athletes, teams or coaches worthy of the honor. Eight people have been selected.

Tickets have been on sale since July 6 and are still available for $10 at the Negaunee Public Schools Administrative Office, located on 101 S. Pioneer Ave. in Negaunee.
