SANDS — A motorcyclist died in a two-vehicle accident late Wednesday in Sands Township, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office reported that at about 10:51 p.m. Wednesday, deputies were dispatched to County Road 480 near Pelissier Lake Road in Sands Township for an accident involved a motorcycle and pickup truck.

A deputy arrived at the scene within two minutes of the initial call, and with the assistance of the public, began life-saving measures on the motorcycle driver. However, the measures were unsuccessful and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The motorcycle was driven by a local Skandia man while the other vehicle, a Dodge pickup truck, was driven by a Dickinson County man. The incident remains under investigation, and no further information is available at this time.

Additionally, while deputies were conducting a crash investigation, a second accident occurred when another vehicle failed to stop for the emergency vehicles blocking the scene. The second crash involved a passenger car hitting a Sands Township emergency fire pickup truck while emergency lights were activated to protect first responders at the scene.

The second crash was investigated by the Michigan State Police.
