Matching funds raised for Teal Lake dock project

NEGAUNEE — The required matching funds for a dock project at Teal Lake have been raised, according to a joint announcement from the cities of Ishpeming and Negaunee with the Rotary Club of Ishpeming.

Donations and fundraising have brought the organizations to the required match of $38,900. The estimated total cost for this project is $152,000.

The docks will be provided by EZ-Dock and will be above Americans with Disabilities Act standards for accessibility. The Ishpeming side will be equipped to handle both canoes and kayaks, while the Negaunee side of the lake will handle canoes, kayaks and sculls used by the Marquette Rowing Club. The project completion is expected for 2022 as long as funding is approved.

Grant applications have been submitted to the Natural Resources Trust Fund and the Recreation Passport Grant Program. Both grants require a 25% match. Though this funding match is now acquired, the grant approval is pending, officials said.

Officials said in a news release that “appreciation is extended to the following organizations for their donations”:

≤ city of Ishpeming, $5,000

≤ city of Negaunee, $5,000

≤ Ishpeming Rotary Club, $10,000

≤ Tru North Credit Union, $1,000

≤ Ishpeming/Negaunee Community Fund, $1,900
