Downstate woman killed in 3-vehicle Mackinac Co. crash

MACKINAC COUNTY — A downstate woman is dead after a three-vehicle accident in Mackinac County Saturday.

At approximately 12:04 p.m., deputies with the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a personal injury accident on Hiawatha Trail/County Road H-40 near Livermore Road in Hudson Township involving two passenger vehicles and an oncoming motorcycle.

According to a news release, preliminary investigation shows that a 42-year-old unidentified male was stopped traveling westbound on Hiawatha Trail waiting to make a left turn onto Livermore Road when he was rear-ended by another westbound vehicle operated by 40-year-old Naubinway man Chad Hood.

The initial collision pushed the stopped vehicle into oncoming traffic, causing it to collide with an eastbound motorcyclist, identified as Jenny Timmer, a 43-year-old woman from White Cloud in Newaygo County.

Timmer was transported from the scene to Helen Newberry Joy Hospital in Newberry where she succumbed from injuries sustained in the crash. Timmer was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Hood was arraigned Monday in 92nd District Court for operating under the influence of drugs causing death, with bond set at $50,000.

The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office and Michigan State Police accident investigators.
